5 TIPS TO AVOID HEAD LICE WHILE TRAVELING
Here are five tips that will help you avoid head lice while traveling.
1. PACK HEAD LICE PREVENTION PRODUCTS.
First and foremost, protect yourself with a head lice spray. It’s the easiest and most effective thing you can do. Lice sprays are typically made from scents like rosemary, spearmint, and/or peppermint, which naturally deter lice. We also recommend packing a lice comb so that you can check for head lice as needed, such as after your child has stayed at a hotel camp.
2. DON’T SIT TOO CLOSE TO OTHERS ON PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION.
To get around the city, you might need to take a bus, train or taxi. But, it is possible to contract head lice by sitting or standing directly next to someone who has head lice. You might not have many options if the bus is already packed, but if you’re able to, sit away from others.
3. KEEP YOUR HAIR TIED BACK.
For those who have longer hair, keep it tied back and spray it with a lice spray. This is an easy way to safeguard from head lice – plus keep hair out of your face! This is especially important for young children, as they tend to play closely with other children at parks, swimming pools, and sand areas.
4. AVOID SHARING HAIR PRODUCTS WITH ANYONE.
Whether you’re traveling with your family or a group of friends, make sure to pack your own head and hair products. It’s always best to use your own combs, brushes, and hair accessories. Plan ahead, as you might need less frequently used items like bobby pins, barrettes, or clips. Also, be cautious when trying on hats, as these can also spread head lice.
5. CHECK FOR HEAD LICE.
If you and your family are spending a lot of time in close quarters with other people, you can do a quick lice check before bed. All you need is a lice comb and a flashlight. Lice are dark in color and the size of a poppy seed. Nits are white or yellow-brown and close to the scalp. If head lice are present, you can use our head lice shampoo and lice comb to tackle the problem on the spot!
